To help adoption of new ergonomy by v2 users, we should implement "intermediate" UI for the central part

• first level would be ribbon + web page, changing for each selection (no tab)
• second level would be ribbon + tabs, but only one tab for site navigation
• third level would be the current behaviour

Considering the left panel, it should be "closeable" or "pinable" like the attached prototype
