In most case, it should be good to have a blank field instead the first value of the enumerator as default value in mandatory fields with the enumerator widget. Same behaviour as non mandatory fields with enumerator.

Like this, the user would not be able to save the content if the mandatory fields have not been explicitly filled.

Note: You should test the behaviour for mandatory fields without default value but with restrictions.
